Other orders made on sentencing

The court is required by law to make some other orders. The most common order is the surcharge (sometimes referred to as the victim surcharge).

Courts have no discretion about making these orders; they apply automatically if the conditions set out in law are met. They are separate from any other financial orders that a court may make such as fines, compensation or prosecution costs.
