Between 29 November 2023 and 21 February 2024 the Council held a public consultation seeking views on a draft, revised version of the Imposition of community and custodial sentences guideline.

On 5 March 2025 the Council published the revised Imposition guideline and our response to the public consultation. The response sets out the views put forward by respondents to the consultation, all of which were carefully considered, the research and evidence that have shaped the guideline, and the reasons behind the Council’s final decisions.

13:30, 06/03/2025: A minor correction has been made to one sentence in the paragraph that starts “Regarding ethnicity” at the bottom of page 22. The word “female” has been removed from the sentence that begins “While the trend analysis alone is not evidence of a disparity due to the guideline” as this does not only apply to females.
