Today, the Sentencing Council is publishing updated guidance for courts about the process that should be followed when deciding whether offenders should be given community or custodial sentences. At the same time, it has launched a consultation on its proposed sentencing guidelines for judges and magistrates when they are dealing with offenders who have breached court orders.
